The first words upon waking
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Pronunciation
Alḥamdu lillāhil-ladhī aḥyānā ba'da mā amātanā wa ilayhin-nushūr.
Meaning
All praise is for Allah who gave us life after taking it away, and to Him is the resurrection.

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ، رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي
Pronunciation
Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahū lā sharīka lah… Subḥānallāh, wal-ḥamdu lillāh, wa lā ilāha illallāh, wallāhu akbar, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāhil-'aliyyil-'aẓīm, rabbighfir lī.
Meaning
Whoever recites this upon waking, his supplication is answered; if he performs wudu and prays, it is accepted.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي عَافَانِي فِي جَسَدِي، وَرَدَّ عَلَيَّ رُوحِي، وَأَذِنَ لِي بِذِكْرِهِ
Pronunciation
Alḥamdu lillāhil-ladhī 'āfānī fī jasadī, wa radda 'alayya rūḥī, wa adhina lī bidhikrih.
Meaning
All praise is for Allah who restored to me my health, returned my soul, and permitted me to remember Him.

إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ لَآيَاتٍ لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ
Pronunciation
Recite the last ten verses of Surah Āl 'Imrān (190–200).
Meaning
The Prophet ﷺ, upon waking at night, would recite these verses. Indeed in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of night and day are signs for people of understanding.
