قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ … قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ … قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ

Pronunciation

Recite the three Quls, blow into your palms, and wipe over your body — starting with the head, face, and front of body — three times.

Meaning

The Prophet ﷺ would do this every night before sleeping (Bukhari).

آيَةُ الْكُرْسِيِّ

Pronunciation

Recite Ayat al-Kursi.

Meaning

Whoever recites it before sleeping will have a guardian from Allah and no devil will approach him until morning.

آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِن رَّبِّهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۚ كُلٌّ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ … رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا أَنتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ

Pronunciation

Last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (285–286).

Meaning

Whoever recites the last two verses of Al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.

بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّي وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِي وَبِكَ أَرْفَعُهُ، فَإِنْ أَمْسَكْتَ نَفْسِي فَارْحَمْهَا، وَإِنْ أَرْسَلْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا بِمَا تَحْفَظُ بِهِ عِبَادَكَ الصَّالِحِينَ

Pronunciation

Bismika rabbī waḍa'tu janbī wa bika arfa'uh, fa in amsakta nafsī farḥamhā, wa in arsaltahā faḥfaẓhā bimā taḥfaẓu bihī 'ibādakaṣ-ṣāliḥīn.

Meaning

In Your name my Lord, I lie down, and in Your name I rise. If You take my soul, have mercy upon it, and if You send it back, then protect it as You protect Your righteous servants.

اللَّهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إِلَيْكَ، وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْكَ، وَوَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي إِلَيْكَ، وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْكَ، رَغْبَةً وَرَهْبَةً إِلَيْكَ، لَا مَلْجَأَ وَلَا مَنْجَا مِنْكَ إِلَّا إِلَيْكَ، آمَنْتُ بِكِتَابِكَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَ، وَبِنَبِيِّكَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ

Pronunciation

Allāhumma aslamtu nafsī ilayk, wa fawwaḍtu amrī ilayk, wa wajjahtu wajhī ilayk, wa alja'tu ẓahrī ilayk, raghbatan wa rahbatan ilayk, lā malja'a wa lā manjā minka illā ilayk, āmantu bikitābikal-ladhī anzalt, wa binabiyyikal-ladhī arsalt.

Meaning

O Allah, I submit myself to You, entrust my affairs to You, turn my face to You, and rely on You, out of hope and fear. There is no refuge nor escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You revealed and in Your Prophet whom You sent. (Say this and if you die that night, you die upon the fitrah.)

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ (٣٣)، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ (٣٣)، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ (٣٤)

Pronunciation

Subḥānallāh (33), Alḥamdulillāh (33), Allāhu Akbar (34).

Meaning

The Prophet ﷺ taught Fatimah رضي الله عنها this dhikr before sleep, saying it is better than a servant.

بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا

Pronunciation

Bismika Allāhumma amūtu wa aḥyā.

Meaning

In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.
